Angelina Jolie Golden Globes 2012 makeup and that red lip
I have been a bit obsessed with this particular red lip. I do have a slightly unhealthy obsession with red lipsticks in general, of every type, but duplicating this particular one exactly has been driving me demented. I've also not had much luck researching it online. Given that a year has now passed and we've just had the 2013 Golden Globes, it was time to put this one to bed.
Of course, part of the problem is that in various images her lips look blue-based red... cherry red... slightly watermelon-pink tinged red... vaguely coral-hued red. It seemed to have a very slight shine, so it clearly wasn't a matte finish, but also more than a satin finish.
So given my search for that elusive shade of red, and given my recent contact with Lynne Sanders of Cosmetics à la Carte, I decided to get in touch with them to see if they could help; they of the bespoke and custom makeup. By return, they very kindly send me out a bunch of sample sized lipsticks for consideration.
The ones they sent me out were:
- Pimento - Moisture Plus
- Tulip - Moisture Plus
- Tomato - Matte Velvet
- Petunia - Moisture Plus
- Firefly - Sheer Balm
- Cyclamen - Matte Velvet
- Vamp - Lipstain
Cosmetics à la Carte lipsticks, L->R in the shades:
Pimento, Tulip, Tomato, Petunia, Firefly, Cyclame, Vamp
If you look above, you'll see that Tulip (the second from the left) is not far off; a blue-based red with slight pink undertones. Pimento (the leftmost shade above) is a pink-based coral red lipstick.
So what happened when I mixed the two?
Not a bad dupe!
I'm a happy bunny. It's very very close. A matte blue-based or true red lipliner underneath will get it even closer I think.

Thanks very much to Cosmetics à la Carte for sending me on sample lipsticks to try out, and to Lynne Sanders for her advice!
