Guerlain Meteorites Perles Base Éclat Les Ors primer - review

Guerlain Meteorites Perles Base Éclat Les Ors

Welcome to the review of a product that I had forgotten existed.  Let me rewind a little and explain.  The story actually begins with another product (bear with me).  A while back, I got several samples from my local Dior counter of their new wonder product Dream Skin - a skincare product that you use after your moisturiser and before your foundation (if that's your next step).  The effect created by Dream Skin is indeed gorgeous and every foundation I wore over it always looked fab.  But there was one, big fat problem with this product. The price of it.  It's €104.  That's a hell of lot of money to fork out for what is (in my personal opinion) a primer.  A drop dead gorgeous one that's full with lots of lovely stuff but still, to me (rightly or wrongly) a primer.

So, I started looking for alternatives and during my search, I was reminded of the product I'm reviewing today - the Guerlain Meteorites Perles Base Éclat Les Ors primer.  There are several lovely ladies that I follow on Youtube and they're around my age (give or take a few years) so I'm always keen to see what products they use and what they think of them (I trust their very honest opinions).  Every single one of them recommended the Les Ors so I thought "right, let's get this and try it out".  And I'm very glad that I did.

So, what does it do?

In a nutshell, it makes your foundation look absolutely be-yond gorgeous.  As you can see from the picture, there are hundreds of tiny little balls, suspended in a clear gel, all varying shades of gold and bronze. However when you pump out the product (one pump will do), it comes out a thick-ish bronzey colour.  The first time I did this, I stood there, looking at it on the back of my hand and quite honestly didn't know what to make of it.  Then I applied with my fingers.  It felt refreshing on the skin, a lovely cooling sensation which I really liked.  It dried down almost immediately.  Then I put on my foundation.  And that's when the magic was apparent.  The result was gorgeous.  I know I keep using that word but it really is the best word to describe the effect.  It made my foundation look gorgeous.  I was glowing!  Not in a greasy way but in "glow from within" way, which I absolutely love.  I've tried this primer under every foundation I own and the effect is the same every time.  I also find that my foundation lasts longer when I use it.

There were two things that I was afraid that this primer would do.  One: make me look bronzed when applied it (I'm very very fair) and/or Two: change the colour of my foundation when I applied it.  I can happily confirm that it does neither.

This is a gorgeous product (there's that word again!) which I believe would work on all skin tones and types.  For those of you who are sensitive to smells, it does have the signature Guerlain scent (which I like, but I appreciate many don't) but it isn't very strong and fades quickly.

I absolutely love this product and I can see now why it has been such a hit all along.  This product will definitely be a keeper in my makeup arsenal.  Another reason to love it?  It's half the price of the Dior.  I bought mine here and it cost me €52 including shipping - still not exactly cheap but well worth it in my humble opinion.  Definitely recommended.
