Caudalie Vinosource Intense Moisture Rescue Cream - review

After trying, loving, and raving about its sister product, the Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum (look here for the review), I had high hopes about the Caudalie Vinosource Intense Moisture Rescue Cream.  But it wasn't to be.  Just goes to show that every item from a particular product range won't necessarily suit you...

This is a supposedly particularly rich cream, and its remit (to treat "from deep down" extremely dry and dehydrated skin), together with a lot of the reviews I've read about it (suggesting that it is indeed more suited for practically dessicated skin), suggest that this might be a winner for much more mature skin in need of serious hydration.  Having loved the serum, the SA recommended the cream to me, and I've been using a very generous sample of it, on and off, for a couple of weeks.

Rich cream it is; it's quite a thick creamy formula and when I say a little bit goes a long way, think half what you'd normally use.  And then that's likely too much.   What I found was that, if I used it during the day, my makeup would pile and slide off.  Too rich, or so I thought.  When I used it in the evening, I found that it would "bunch" after a while, and when I'd touch my face it would almost come away, like a mask would.  Very odd.  And when I'd wake the next morning, my skin was actually dryer and tighter feeling, than with any other moisturiser.  Very very odd.  I stopped using it all over my skin, and used it in an attempt to rehydrate a really sore and red and flaky nose (it was sore and acting out after two weeks of a summer 'flu, and repeated nose blowing).  All it did was sting; I went back to my beloved CDLM, which did the trick (as in fairness, it always does).  After a number of uses, I concluded that this stuff just Wasn't For Me.  Pity, because, as I've mentioned, I really think the serum is a thing of genius.  Just goes to show.

Ingredients-wise, this is water and glycerin-based with a bunch of plant extracts, seed oils, shea butter and hyaluronic acid.  So far so moisturising.  It does contain some wheat extracts, watch it if you're a coeliac.  It contains silicones (although far down in the listing).  It doesn't contain parabens, mineral oils, animal ingredients, apparently.  It doesn't contain an SPF.  It does contain far too much heavy soap-scented fragrance (which in fairness does dissipate over time, but not quickly enough for my liking).

At around €25, this isn't a bad price for a really good moisturiser.  If in fact this is what it is.  It didn't work for me, but if your skin is in desperate need, perhaps it might? maybe? possibly? work for you.  Look here for more info if you're interested, and as always, as did I, try before you buy.
