Dior Capture Totale Foundation |
To buy or not to buy, that is the question... Shakespeare and makeup, who'd have thought it :-)
Today I'm going to talk about/ a foundation that I've been trying out for well over six weeks now. It's the Capture Totale foundation by Dior. I got two very generous samples of the foundation to try and now that I've nearly used them up, it's time to share my thoughts on this product.
So, what's it like?
This is one of the new breed of hybrid foundations on the market that contains a serum within the foundation (another example is the YSL Youth Liberator Serum foundation). As the name suggests, it contains Dior's Capture Totale serum which is part of their global anti-ageing and perfection range of the same name.
Coverage
Medium, slightly buildable to almost full coverage.
Finish
The finish is velvet - soft and slightly dewy but not in a sticky way. It's one of those foundations that when you wear it, people will ask you what foundation you're wearing, and the reason they're asking is because it's so beautiful on the skin.
Best Applied With
I like to use a brush to apply my foundations but this product applies just as easily with fingers (I haven't tried it with a sponge as personally I don't like to use them). I found that I have to do very little concealing or correcting when I wear this foundation, nor have I needed to use powder to set it.
Formulation, Wearability
Consistency wise, it's more creamy than liquid-y, applies very easily and given the coverage, doesn't feel heavy on these skin at all. In fact, quite the opposite.
Lastability is pretty good, it wears well, it does fade but it does it nicely, evenly. I've been wearing this to work and the only touch up it needed was a little powder in the afternoon - you'll get about a standard eight hours wear out of this one.
Shades
The shades... |
There are ten shades available in this, divided between five neutral bases, two yellow bases, two pink bases, one peach base. I use the lightest one (Ivory/101) and it is a perfect match for me (I'm roughly a MAC NW10-15).
Best suited to
First things, first. This foundation is for mature skin. It's for those of us who are 40 and over (if you're under 40 and fancy trying this foundation, by all means fire ahead, but it specifically targets "early mature" skin).
Normal to dry and normal to oily. If you're very oily, this may not work so well for you but as always, get a sample and try it out for yourself. If they tell you they don't have any, come back in another day with a little pot and ask them to put a few pumps of the product into it. It's not going to bankrupt Dior to do this, and any good SA will know that you'll need to do this to make sure your skin doesn't react badly to it.
SPF, Cost, etc
This has an SPF of 15. And I'm going to finish off this post by answering question I asked at the top of this post... to buy or not to buy. Short answer - No. I personally won't be purchasing. Why? Because this foundation is €80. Yep, 80 quid. If you have €80 to spend (or you don't but plan to get the money together), then I would strongly recommend that you spend that €80 on a top notch face serum instead, which will help get your skin into the condition where you won't need to spend €80 on your foundation to fake it. Has my skin improved for using this foundation? I can't honestly say that I've noticed, but I've only been using it for about six weeks (and not full time at that either). Bottom line - yes, this is a stunning foundation but your money would be far better spent by investing in your skincare.
Until next time,
MontyC
