Yves Saint Laurent Eyeliner Moiré in Steel Reflections - review

Yves Saint Laurent Eyeliner Moiré in Steel Reflections

Having a gander at YSL's fall '13 makeup collection in-store lately (look here while there's still info available), very little struck me that I was particularly interested in, and then this eyeliner caught my eye.  Although the eyeliner in Copper Reflections is the official new eyeliner introduced with this collection, it also seems to feature an older liner, in Steel Reflections, as a re-promote.  I have something very similar to Copper Reflections (from Illamasqua) already, and I'd wanted a cream/liquid liner in a grey shade, so this one, Steel Reflections, caught my eye more than the other.

According to YSL, this eyeliner features "shimmering highlights" and creates a "sparkling, magnetic look for the eyes".  Not to be rude, but hello, my considerable arse it does.

This is, on the other hand, a gorgeous, darkened, pewter-grey shade.

I've reviewed these eyeliners before when I bought the Rose Baby Gold version back in the summer.  These are very opaque, very pigmented, very long lasting formula liquid liners that have a really thin brush and fantastic wearability - they don't dry out or flake or fade - the colour on the brush is what you get on your eyes.  The formula as I understand is an oil-in-water one, so they dry down nicely but don't feel tight on your eyes, but they're apparently ok to be used by contact lens wearers.  They're a little too liquid to be used in the waterline IMO.

Nice and grey...

The advertised metallic shimmer however, is sadly completely non-existent.  That said, I wanted a grey liquid liner for those days I don't want a black one or a coloured one, and I don't want to use a grey powder.  It cost me €31 and there's a bunch of other shades that I'm sorely tempted by (including a greenish-teal one that is calling out to me ;-))
