Chanel Les Beige Healthy Glow Multi-Colour #01 |
As the saying goes "sometimes you gotta fake it to make it". We'd all love to have fresh, healthy, glowing skin every single day. We'd wake up, look in the mirror and there it would be, staring back at us. In reality however, it rarely if ever happens that way! As we get older, and despite the litres of water (drunk), and despite not smoking, and despite a step-up in skincare regime, we need a little more help than that... And what if you don't have the time/opportunity/money to go off and have a good facial to sort your face out? That's when it's time to fake that glow.
There are so many products on the market now (at every price point) that are designed to help give you that "glowing from within" healthy look when in actual fact you're doing eleven hour days at work and/or one of the kids are teething/sick and you can't remember the last time you had a decent night's sleep. When you feel like this, "glow", in all its fake finery, is your friend :-). I've just bought one of these healthy glow products which has just been launched by Chanel. It's from the Summer 2014 Les Beiges collection and it's called Healthy Glow Multi-Colour. There are two in the collection - I bought the lighter one (No. 1). I've been using it a lot since I got it and here's my first impressions of the product.
First up, let's talk about what the product looks like and what you get in the compact. Unlike most other Chanel products, this compact is cream/off white with the double C Chanel logo in black (most Chanel products come in black packaging with the white double Cs).
When you open it, you get a very cute, surprisingly useful, soft little brush. Under the brush is the product itself.

The picture without flash is true to colour. You can see how much I've used it already! The PR images, I can tell you now, doesn't do this any justice; it is waaaay more beautiful "in person". It is are also the softest powder I've ever used in my life. Whether I'm swatching it or applying it, I can hardly feel it. It's softer than whisper-soft. Incidentally, another thing that doesn't show up enough in the PR images is the colour difference between the two compacts. It's a lot more than it looks in the press shots. The one I got, #01, is a lot lighter than #02. #01 is not bronzer, it's definitely what it purports to be, a healthy glow powder. #02 is a lot darker - I could use this one as a bronzer for example, or it can be used as intended, a finishing powder for darker skintones.
So what's it like? OK - I mentioned how soft it is. The next thing are the colours; just gorgeous. However no matter what I did, and believe me I tried, I could not get swatches of this to photo - it just looked like my skin! And that's the point of this product. If you swish all the colours together, it just adds a beautiful fresh appearance to your skin but it doesn't add "colour" per se. You won't look like you're wearing a bronzer and a blusher. You'll just look healthy. I've also used the three shades individually. The top shade is a gently cream-beige shade with the slightest hint of shimmer in it and can be worn as a (very subtle) highlighter, as a finishing powder, or as a base eye shadow. The other two shades are matte; the middle shade is a light peachy-nude shade and the bottom colour is a gorgeous peachy-pink shade that makes a fabulous blush (I would love it if Chanel produced this shade as stand alone blush). Interestingly, the three colours haven't bled into each other at all, which means I can continue to use these individually or blended together.
So at around the €50 mark, is it worth it? Personally I believe it is. I love wearing it. Are there cheaper options out there? I've no doubt there is but if you're in the market for a drop dead gorgeous, fail safe finishing powder that gives you a natural looking "not wearing makeup" healthy glow, you won't go wrong with this.
Until next Monday,
MontyC
