Mane 'n Tail - His 'n Hers review

Mane n’ Tail was developed in New Jersey forty years ago and, as most people will know, started its life as a horse grooming product!

I've been intrigued with the notion of this product for years, but wasn't willing to pay the expense of having it shipped over from the States (back when it wasn't available in Ireland).  According to all who use it, and its celebrity fanbase (Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker and Demi Moore just to mention a few ladies with flowing glowing locks), and (more importantly) its endorsements by industry professionals, who wouldn't want to try it?  Especially given that it's not remotely expensive (around €7 for the 355ml bottle and €9 for the 473ml bottle).  It's also now available pretty much everywhere - I purchased it from my local pharmacy.

Hers

mine :-)

I bought these about six months ago and have been using since.  Given my hair experiments (every colour under the sun, ranging from blonde to black with a few pit stops at the red end of the spectrum, a everything from bleached to highlighted to ombré to darkened back up again) I need a good hair care regimen.  I have dry, damaged, distressed, chemically treated hair.  I alternate between using a shampoo and conditioner for dry/damaged hair and then a duo for distressed/chemically treated hair, regular as clockwork - I hit on this combination a few years ago and it gives me what I need to keep my hair in check.  So I purchased the Mane 'n Tail Deep Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner to try out as a potential replacement for the first half of my hair care regimen (the dry/damaged stuff I currently use).

As horse hair is five times stronger than human hair, it takes just a small amount for great results on human hair.  And wow is this stuff amazing - it leaves my hair super silky soft, not overloaded, not greasy.  It doesn't fade my hair colour at all, nor does it make my highlights brassy (although I do still use a purple-tinted shampoo once a month as a treatment, just to be sure to be sure).  Very often I find that a new shampoo/conditioner will work for a few tries, and then I'm back to my tried-and-trusted.  Not so with this stuff - I'm using it happily a few months on.  The conditioner mainly consists of a bunch of different oils, proteins and a small amount of silicones, and it smells fine - slightly sweet, slightly fruity.  Himself likes it anyhow :-)

His (or the Male 'n Tale part!)

his...

Having gratefully received a Mane 'n Tail Anti-Dandruff Shampoo & Conditioner set for my consideration, I put them to good use on the OH's hair.  He's been using it for a few weeks now, and although I've been asking him to write a post, I've given up, and decided to "interview" him instead.  Of course, boys will be boys, and what he actually said was "yeah, it's grand, yeah", I tried to get more than that out of him with a few carefully worded questions, like:

Q Do you like the smell
A Yeah, it's grand, yeah

Q Does it leave your hair clean and conditioned
A Yeah, it does, yeah

Q Is it better than your current shampoo and conditioner
A Well, they were nearly used up...
Q *sighs* aside from the fact that they were nearly used up...
A Yeah, I guess so, yeah

Q Does it combat dandruff?  (He doesn't really have dandruff all that often)
A Sure I don't get dandruff that much, only the odd time, but yeah, it does, yeah

Q Does it help with itching scalp?
A Yeah, I haven't had any itches

Q What about redness (he has ridiculously overly sensitive skin and scalp and it can flare up and become red and aggrevated at the drop of a hat)
A No, no redness, no

Q Is it good?  Would you get it again?
A Well there's loads in it, isn't there...
Q *another sigh* WHEN IT'S GONE, would you get it again
A (recognises the danger signs), yeah, I would, yeah.

There you go - hardly an eloquent endorsement, however given his sensitive skin, dry hair and (in fairness) very infrequent dandruff, he's happy that none of these have been an issue in the last month, and will re-purchase (or should I say, purchase, as these were kindly received free gratis and for nothing).  I, on the other hand, will also most certainly repurchase the Deep Moisturising S&C when I run out.  Brilliant stuff.  I can see where the fuss comes from.

Look here for more information.  Mane 'n Tail comes in a few ranges (Original, Deep Moisturising, Colour Protect and new Anti-Dandruff and Clarifying ranges to boot) to cater for different hair care needs.
