My favourite YouTube videos of the last 6 weeks

This one is a bit of a cheat post!  Things have been beyond hectic lately and I haven’t had any time to catch up with my YouTube subscriptions.  I finally sat down last night to take a look at a long long list – nearly six weeks’ full of “new” videos all to be watched.  It was a long, fun night.  At close to midnight I realised I hadn’t written a blog for today, and given my 6am start, was unlikely to begin at that point.

So I thought I’d share with you the YouTube videos I enjoyed the most out of all those I watched instead J.  Maybe you already follow or subscribe to some of these very talented people, or perhaps you might discover something new and fun!  Either way, I hope you enjoy and I’ll try find time to blog later for tomorrow!

Chanel Spring-Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear - Runway Show
YouTube Name
Who
Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee
Link
Description
As the title suggests, this is the RTW runway show for Chanel SS13

Why I love it

Just watch it.  The runway/set itself is beyond amazing, and the clothes are stunning; a real return to the 80’s Chanel look, with a bunch of newer inspirations thrown in for good measure.  I can’t afford any of this, but it doesn’t stop me drooling over it.  Frequently I gloss over longer videos;  this one, I was plastered all over start-to-finish

Title
Wide-Eyed & Lashy 'Dolly/Goth' Look
YouTube Name
Who
Lisa Eldridge
Link
Description
A recreation of the mid-60’s “Dolly Look” makeup worn by the Biba sales assistants at the time – the makeup was designed by Barbara Hulanicki (Biba creator) and recreated by the inimitable Lisa Eldridge

Why I love it

This video had me riveted, with a stupid grin plastered to my face.  What’s not to love about this lady.  She is an inordinately, quietly, super-talented makeup artist who is calm, unflappable, unfussy, generous with tips, and who is responsible for some of my more expensive brush lust (Suuqu, anyone?) – but she really knows her products and techniques, and very frequently combines crazy expensive products/brushes with drugstore ones.  Look for her video on acne cover-up makeup, it’s one of the best videos I’ve ever watched.

Title
Dragon Slayer
YouTube Name
Who
Klaire de Lys
Link
Description
This continues on from Klaire’s Dragon Slayer mini-series (she’s done backdrops, props, a tattoo and now this, the makeup tutorial).

Why I love it

I’ve loved this series – this is a very talented artist I’ve been following for some time (blogs, YouTube, you name it).  With a background in art, she understands makeup and brushes, is very very talented and tries to come up with something different all the time.  This one combines some minor special effects makeup together with standard makeup.  She also has the most calming voice you’ve ever listened to J

Title
Leona Lewis X Factor Make Up
YouTube Name
Who
Nic Haste
Link
Description
This is a recreation (by Nic from Pixiwoo) of a Leona Lewis X-Factor makeup, done by famous makeup artist Jane Bradley

Why I love it

While I’m not a huge fan of the base in this look, I love love love the eye makeup – it’s so incredibly simple and unfussy, hardly any products or colours, the ones used are a mix of drugstore/cheap and expensive but combine for a really stunning finish.  The mix of the brown and silver is inspired, this is makeup by someone who knows products, who knows colours, who knows shapes.  And of course, it really doesn’t hurt that one of the infamous and talented Pixiwoo sisters is recreating this look!

Make-Up Atelier Paris: Plumes Noires
YouTube Name
Who
Make-Up Atelier Paris
Link
Description
A very OTT but stunning editorial look

Why I love it

I just love everything posted by this YouTuber.  It’s real makeup artistry; it looks so simple and just when you think the look is completed, she does something else, another line, a smudge, a splotch, and presto – it’s different.  Very beautiful and incredibly artistic.

Title
Johnny Depp Make-up Transformation (Edward Scissor Hands, Captain Jack Sparrow & Willy Wonka)
YouTube Name
Who
Promise Phan
Link
Description
Promise Phan (the sister of Michelle Phan) does three looks in this video; she transforms herself into Johnny Depp from the three movies mentioned above.

Why I love it

Promise Phan is the absolute queen of transformation videos – look at her YouTube channel for a bunch more transformations – animé, movie and cartoon characters, celebrities, you name it.  She’s very talented and really fun to watch, especially with Halloween coming up!
